case study: Middlesex County Economic Opportunities Corporation (MCEOC)

The Middlesex County Economic Opportunities Corporation (MCEOC), a non-profit community action agency, turned to The SPI Group to help to raise awareness of the organization and its programs. Local awareness is important to MCEOC in reaching potential public- and private-sector supporters as well as low-income clients in need of MCEOC services. The SPI Group developed and implemented a strategic media relations campaign focusing on special events around Middlesex County to raise awareness of the organization.

Our efforts generated a front-page story in The Home News Tribune about the MCEOC Emergency Food program. The story raised awareness of the program and inspired children at a local school to raise money for MCEOC's food pantry, delivering the message of community action.

As part of the campaign, we arranged press events to launch new micro-businesses MCEOC established with Veterans Affairs (VA) New Jersey Health Care System. These new businesses provide employment and job training to New Jersey's homeless Veterans, while generating funds for other Veterans programs. For one micro-business, P.A.T.S., a coffee shop located at the Perth Amboy train station, we organized a day-long grand opening event. News stories appeared in regional media outlets, such as WABC-TV, The Star-Ledger, the Home News Tribune, News 12 New Jersey, NJN and WCTC-AM. .
